EasyGate Components described
--------------------------------------------------
Router
EasyGate is a professional internetrouter that supports all possible connection types (ISDN, DSL, ADSL, PPPoe, PPTP etc.). Often EasyGate servers are equipped with 2 NIC's (Network Interface Cards) and an ISDN device, so in case the permanent connection is temporarily out of order an ISDN connection can serve as a back-up facility.
Firewall & Security
EasyGate offers excellent protection again unwanted access from outside. The administrator can make the following firewall settings:
- Certain ports can be opened up (eg. IMAP/POP3/PPTP/HTTPS) so that employees can access certain services from outside. A port can be opened up for all IP-addresses or for a selection of addresses.
- Portforwardings can be set up. This way, e-mail can be transferred to another mailserver.
- It is also possible to close down ports from the inside to outside of the network, so eg. ICQ or telnet sessions are no longer possible for your employees.
Proxyserver & Contentfilter
A proxyserver caches pages so that they can be displayed faster. Besides, a proxyserver offers the possiblity to limit internet access. EasyGate offers two mechanisms to do this: (1) on the basis of time restrictions through a log-on mechanism and (2) on the basis of contents.
Log-on mechanism:
With the log-on mechanism activated, users have to log-on to the server before they have access to the internet. The administrator can decide on a per-user base how much time users may spend on the internet each day, week or month.
Contentfilter (will shortly be available on the EasyGate):
EasyGate uses an advanced content filter named “DansGuardian”. It allows you to block websites on the basis of their URL and contents. Blacklists, whitelists, etc. can be configured through the EasyGate webinterface.
PPTP Server
EasyGate has a built-in PPTP server for teleworking. You can set up “teleworkers” on the EasyGate, who then need to have an internet connection and a PPTP client. Such a client is a standard feature within a.o. the Windows OS.
IPSec Server
With IPsec, networks can be permanently connected to each other over the internet through a secured tunnel. IPsec is the most secure technique for connecting multiple LANs. The only requirement is that the EasyGate servers are attached to a permanent internet connection with a static IP-address.
Mailserver with Worldpilot Webmail
On the EasyGate mailserver an unlimited amount of e-mailusers and alias addresses can be added. Automatic forwardings can be set up and the mailserver is equipped with an autoresponder. The mail on the EasyGate can be read with a regular e-mailclient using either the POP3 or IMAP protocol.
The integrated Worldpilot Webmail Server is a perfect solution for users who want to have quick access to their mailbox through a webbrowser while they are not in the office.
Fileserver
EasyGate can also serve as a central fileserver. On the server “shares” can be made and for each user access rights can be set through the web-interface. The
shares can be linked to a drive letter in the Microsoft Windows explorer.
Webserver
On the Apache Webserver websites can be hosted. Each website can be made available for internal use only (intranet) or for the whole internet.
Faxserver (shortly available on EasyGate)
The faxserver on EasyGate works the following way:
- incoming faxes can be distributed through e-mail (as a gif/pdf attachment) or sent directly to the printer.
- outgoing faxes can be sent from every pc in the network (by means of the function "print document", choose faxserver). NLcom offers a free fax-client, available for download. EasyGate servers that will serve as a faxserver have to be equipped with a suitable ISDN card.
BILL Workgroupserver / Exchange4Linux
A unique Linux-based workgroup solution that allows users to share their Microsoft Outlook (TM) client's agendas, address books and todos ! Users that want to use the workgroupserver with Microsoft Outlook need a BILL mapi client. This mapi client allows you to add BILL as a "service" in MS Outlook.
